A Website that Inspired ME to Cook.

In our house it's a well-known fact that Steve, my husband, does most (okay, okay ALL!) of the cooking. (Don't tell him, but I have a feeling that might all change.) I recently stumbled upon a website called Weelicious a great resource for parents like myself who want to introduce their little ones to healthy and delicious fresh foods.

So far this weekend I'm on a roll! I've made the Veg-Wee Burgers (which are perfect for freezing) Sweet Beet Cookies & Kale Chips -- and I've gotta tell you, my 14 month old wasn't the only one chowing down on them.

The way I see it, any website that can provide me with easy recipes like this AND inspire me to make them is something worth sharing. Thank you, Catherine McCord!

Do It Anyway

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

Tell the FDA you want stricter guidelines on antibiotics used in animal food production

I just sent in my comments to the FDA asking them put stricter guidelines on antibiotics used in animal food production. The overuse of antibiotics has caused virulent strains of bacteria that has put us all at risk. They need to know that we support common sense rules to protect human and environmental health.

Please join me at Food Democracy Now!
-...it will only take a moment.

Thanks!

Take Me Out to the (Yankee) Ballgame

You can't call yourself a baseball fan if you don't know the lyrics to Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

Nelly Kelly loved baseball games,
Knew the players, knew all their names,
You could see her there ev'ry day,
Shout "Hurray" when they'd play.
Her boy friend by the name of Joe
Said, "To Coney Isle, dear, let's go,"
Then Nelly started to fret and pout,
And to him I heard her shout.

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game."

Nelly Kelly was sure some fan,
She would root just like any man,
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along, good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Nelly Kelly knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the game sing this song.

Ovarian Cancer; Do You Know the Symptoms?

On July 15, 2010 My Aunt Angela Excell passed after a very hard four and a half year battle with ovarian cancer. In her memory, I am begging every woman I know to make themselves familiar with the symptoms of this horrible disease.

Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

* A feeling of being bloated
* Vague abdominal and pelvic discomfort
* Gastrointestinal symptoms such as gas, nausea,
indigestion, constipation, diarrhea.
* Back pain and fatigue
* Frequent or urgent urination
* Menstrual disorders, pain during intercourse

Often the symptoms of ovarian cancer are not taken seriously because they are so similar to other women bodily complaints. Because of this, over 70% of all women with ovarian cancer will not be diagnosed until the disease has spread beyond the ovary. You know your body best. If something doesn't feel right and continues for weeks, call your doctor. (A Pap smear is NOT a test for ovarian cancer, it detects cervical cancer.)

Reduce...Reuse...Recycle

I just sold my 20 year old SubZero on Craigslist. The buyer got a great deal, I made a little extra cash and most importantly, we both kept the ol' fridge out a landfill!
